Snap In adapters
 

Does anyone know if BMW has or will introduce any newer snap in adapters for the X5 anytime soon? Seems like the last one they released was the for the Razr and that one didn't cover the X5.

Thanks for the reply. I've seen the list on that site for a while now and have noticed that it also lists one of the new adapters twice (once as "in development"). All in all though I'd say it's a pretty lousy output from BMW to have introduced 3 adapters in a year for phones that are out of date and relatively unpopular. Considering BMW now have a 3rd party company handling this aspect of their technology, it really is shameful. (Indidentally, I called the company up and their support services were a joke... kind of like talking to the circuit city tv guy about stereo equipment).

It is actually up to the manufacturers to work with BMW to make these. Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Siemens are active in developing for BMW. The other manufactures could care less.

For example, Samsung was working with BMW on A2DP 2 years ago, and we have never heard from that since. It is mostly the Euro phone guys who are interested in this stuff.

The phones for the US are driven by the big carriers such as SPRINT and Verizon. I used to be at QUALCOMM and actually worked on the product management side of things developing phones and phone accessories. I was in countless meetings with both carriers and worked closely with the top guys in the handset division. I can say for a fact that everything that is driven by the carriers these days and Sprint and Verizon could care less about car kits especially when targeted to one brand. The only reason we see ANY snap in adapters are these are driven by European demand and only phones that are in both US and Europe aside from a few exceptions like V710.

Interesting points. I'm not clear as to why these adapter are so difficult to make. It seems that once you assign the appropriate pins in the connector for power and antenna, etc. then all there is left is a piece of plastic to mold. What am I missing here?

Even if snap-in adaptors were plentiful, that doesn't get you very far. I bought the snap-in adaptor for a Motorola RAZR to use with my new '07 X5 only to find that I need other equipment (ejector box) to be able to make it even work! Further, more installation is required, nothing just plugs in....

Actually it does get you far. It allows you two have 2 HUGE advantages. 1 is charging the phone and 2 is using the additional bumper antennas for enhanced signal strength.

No argument; I agree completely. My observation was meant to relate to the number of pieces of equipment necessary and the ensuring installation steps required=no trivial undertaking.

I certainly would like to have my RAZR hooked up properly, but I am inclined to just wait and see if BMW finally comes up with a more, plug and play situation. The installation of the eject box etc and the necessity to disconnect power make me uncomfortable. And I've not gotten a price on the eject box parts and/or installation by someone else. Meanwhile though, everything is working properly with Bluetooth so I will probably just stand pat...:iagree:
