Bluetooth retrofit problem

Hi Guys,
After thinking about doing a Bluetooth upgrade to replace the th V50 set-up thats in the car finally had time to get round and do it.

Got a gen 4 ULF with VR from ebay
Made up the DB25 - 54 pin ulf cable.

Plugged it in and nothing happening, evetually the telephone function on the display greys out.
I've got power going to the ULF, so any thoughts, i'm assuming its dead, ??? or needs recoding.

The only thing I havent done is connect the ariel up, but I cant imagine that would have any effect, would it ?

Any help would be appreciatted

Did you get the telephone option on screen? and when selected did it say "activate phone"?? if so then the ULF is working but not paired to a phone.

The telephone option does not need to be coded, the only coding that it may need is for VR, but that would not stop the ULF working.

Yes, the BT antenna is powered by the ULF, you must have the BT antenna connected to get the ULF to work properley, when i say bt antenna, i don't mean the shark fin job outside, I mean the black job that normally sits under the centre console.

Does the car have a pair button?
Does the ULF pair with the phone?

Thanks for the reply,
I do have the telephone option on screen, but selecting it does nothing, I dont get activate phone and it evetually goes grey and wont allow it itself to be selected.

( I believe this is the car cacthing up with me removing the motorola box and fitting the ULF).
I'll get the ulf to antenna lead and see what happens, but I wouldnt have thought this would stop the 'activate screen' appearing if all was well with the ULF, as it only looks like a length of co-ax????

Any thoughts?

When you disconnet the ULf does the telephone option disappear?

Is the ULF gettting power (direct and switched) is the ULF getting an I-bus connection?

I would try disconnecting the ulf and then turning on the ignition and "resetting" (as such) the i-bus connected devices, then wait for a short while, then turn off the ign and reconnect the ULF to see is that then brings up the ULF.

Yep,
I've got

DB25 ------------ULF
3 --------gnd----- 36
4------- 12v------17
5-- 12v switced---35
22-----ibus-------15

Removing the v50 box and putting in the ULF, greys out the telphone function and makes it unselectable ????????????

I'll try the 'reset' though, see if it helps.

Seems like somebody else on BMWland (UK) is having the same problem with the same vehicle.

Sounds right.

Have you confirmed that the pins on the DB25 have the correct voltages on? (with a DVM) just incase.

For some reason the ULF sounds like it's not being "registered" on the I-BUS, you have the other stuff connected too, tel-on and mute etc. (I don't think it would make a difference though).

It could be that the fixed phone ibus registration needs to be flushed before it will accept a new telephone module, (i'm just guessing though).

I've been watching the bmwland thread too, I agree, it sounds like the same sort of problem.

I'm just wondering about the SES jumper plug, should I have one or do I need with the V50 setup?

As it has the 'telephone on' line as part of the jumper. its a used car and wasn't supplied with the phone, just wondering if it needed a jumper and previous owner has taken it ?

I'm not sure, I didn't need the jumper on my retrofit, I was under the impression that it wasn't needed when you upgraded to BT.

I'm just looking at a schematic for the e46 with boardmonitor that shows line33 (telephone on) going through the jumper to pin 11 of the radio control module ?????

just guessing really, but it might spark a thought in someones memory banks.

Were you replacing a v50 set up or a new install ?

Virgin install, I used a modded telemute lead with the extars added (as needed).

see here, http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth/324...h-install.html
