what about E53?

According to BMW as shown in the link http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/451067

Just like the RAZR, they limit the iphone to the new body style BMWs and give this comment. Due to the broad dimensions of the Apple iPhone the Snap-In-Adapters in not supported in Vehicles of the model series X5 E53, X3 E83, Z4 E85/E86, 3 Series E46, 7 Series E38 and 5 Series E39.

Of course the Iphone still works perfectly with BMW bluetooth module 3th generation as found www.bimmernav.com but the snap in adapter seems to wide for the E53

BMW said the same thing about the Razr snap-in and we were able to modify it to work. I wonder if the same thing could occur here :dunno:

Hook-up Directly or Needs Eject Box????

But are we still going to have the same problem we already do (with the Razr), i.e., a great snap-in adaptor but doesn't hook into the center console without some other specialty gear (eject box) that BMW itself doesn't carry or support? While some may be comfortable with a DIY install of the eject box, others are not.....

Supposed to be full integration

Someone do a adapter for E53.

Whoops--A Little Amplification...

Actually the iPhone is a bit of a special case since I believe it is meant to plug into the 6fl connections. This would provide music selection, playback, and power for all functions with communications taking place via Bluetooth link (I think). Conversely what it does not do (and I would think will require one of the "eject box" additions) is plug into the vehicle antenna. For a similar degree of integration, the Razr requires a snap-in adaptor and the eject box.

While power can be obtained for the Razr by other means, there is no access to the vehicle antenna. For some of us, vehicle antenna access would be very beneficial to improve wireless reception
