Need help - Bluetooth won't connect after going to the dealer

Hi everyone,

I just got my X5 back from the dealer and my bluetooth won't pair with my treo 700p. I tried deleting the pairing and re-pairing, but I don't think my passkey works anymore as I get a "cannot pair with bmw12345" message. Before I call the dealer again, I'm wondering if there is a default passkey, like 0000 or 1111, that might work. I tried both those before my phone couldn't find the BT anymore and neither of them work. I have a May build 2005 4.4i. Thanks in advance.

Probably a dumb question, but are you sure you're entering the passkey code correctly? My friend with an E46 had all sorts of trouble pairing again after a dealer service on his car. Nothing worked, and he was getting very frustrated. We finally took the trunk liner out to look at the ULF module, and whaddaya know? He had transposed two numbers on the passkey. When he got them in the right order it paired on the first try. His response was a classic Homer Simpson "Doh!" ;)

yeah, I'm entering the same number on the bt card the car came with. I thought maybe I was entering it wrong, but I did it a few times and still didn't work.

Just a thought: Is there any chance they replaced your BT module for any reason? If so you'd have a new number. (I know that's not much of an asnwer, but I'm trying to figure out why it's not working.)

thanks Dave...that's what I was thinking, but don't know why they would have replaced it. I was having a leak coming from the sunroof controls, so they replaced the casing around the sunroof. unless the module is there, which I don't think it is, they shouldn't have replaced it. it still reads the BT as bmw173** (can't remember the last 2 numbers) so I would think it's the same module, unless all modules have the same number. :dunno:

Yeah, that's a strange problem. My friend had issues with his E46 until we confirmed the numbers he was entering were wrong. If you want to check your ULF module, it's usually located behind the left sidewall trunk liner, next to the door that exposes the CD changer or whatever you have on that side. There will be a label on the module with the passkey on it. I don't know if all ULF's identify as the same BMW**** item. They might. I know my friend's passkey was not the same numbers as were showing on the BMW**** readout.

Good luck!

thanks Dave for trying to help me figure out the problem...they actually did change out my BT/BMW Assist module that has a new passkey. they put the pass key info in the glove in front of passenger seat, which I usually never open. silly me. thank goodness I was putting back everything I took out and saw the paper.

So then did you get it to work?

yeah, it works now. they put in a brand new module. i didn't expect them to put in a new one, which is why i thought the old pass key would work. it wasn't connecting because it had a new pass key.
