Adding bluetooth or std phone kit - Help!

I am picking up a 15 month old X5 3.0d Sport this Saturday. It has all the goodies except for some reason the 1st owner specified nav with TV rather than comms pack so no phone prep! Whats the best / cheapest option, my current phone is a nokia 6230.

Thanks

PS 1st post so be gentle with me :)

Adding bluetooth is your best option. Don't even think about the standard BMW phone as it is a small fortune and doesn't provide the flexibility of the BT phone system.

Your vehicle may already have the necessary wiring if you have a 54pin plug in the trunk (somewhere by the CD changer area). If not, you may have to get the retrofit kit and put in the wiring harness yourself. Not a big deal if you're good with taking apart the vehicle. I believe the 6230 also has a snap-in adapter.

Thanks - but I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. Is it a case of just running a cable from the rear to the front - into what? Sorry, I'm a bean counter.

Can you recommend any specific kits etc? Anf if needs to be a pro fit any ideas on cost.

If your vehicle is not prewired for a phone, you have to install a new wiring harness. This harness consists of one cable going to the headliner (where the overhead mic is located) to the center console (where the phone snap-in adapter is located,) along the driver's seat under the carpet to the rear of the vehicle where you will be installing the bluetooth module and antenna. Not something for the light hearted! I would recommend getting it done by a reputable stereo shop or dealer if they're willing to do it. Total cost for parts, wiring harness and antenna is in the $600 - $650 range plus labor.

You might want to consider forgoing the BMW Bluetooth solution and going with the Nokia Bluetooth kit as an alternative - http://www.nokiausa.com/nokia_access...224,40,00.html

Do you have a pic of this 54 pin plug thing? WOuld it then be cheaper to add the bluetooth feature? I have a Oct 2003 production X5 and I also have the bluetooth pass key.

For your build date you likley have the combo BT/Assist module that has the BT functionality disabled. Look in the Installation and Retrofit Guides and Information section of http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth.htm at items 11 and 12 for some BT solutions.

How do I know if I have this Module or not?
