HELP -- 2005 4.4i -- bluetooth ??
 

I've read numerous threads on the topic and am still really confused as to where the PassKey is located and how to pair my phones to the X5 i just purchased. I know from what I have read that the BT module is in the trunk area near my navi system, however, I cannot find it :wow: . I have also just tried to run through the pairing of the phone by turning the key to the first stage before starting then pushing the R/T button on the wheel -- it pulls up 'activate phone' but never asks for a PassKey...Assuming I find the PassKey, what else needs to be done??

That depends on if you have bluetooth built into your TCU (telephone control module) of if it is an added accessory. If it is built in then the passkey is on the label of the TCU, or can be pulled from the module in diagnosis using the GT1 at the dealer.

If it is added afterwards, the code can usually be set. What ever code it asks for, enter the same code on both the car and phone and it just remembers.

I had to dig my module out of the left rear access cover area. It was the outermost module, but to get to, to see the passkey I had to remove the spare tire cover and the plastic form on the left side to see the module. The module had a sticker and the four digit passkey was on that. Something like PK 1234. Then the standard paring instructions found here or on the BMW website should get you up and running.

I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth is already in the X being that it is an 05 with premium and the assist package. I took the car to the dealer today for some other small maintenance and asked them to provide the PassKey when I pick it up in a day or two. I guess my next question would involve the pairing of the phone.
The first step I took was to place the phone is search status then I pushed the R/T button on the wheel -- when I did that the dashboard read Activate Phone however, the phone could not find a BT signal. :( ..Am I still doing something wrong or is there another way to go about this process. I really appreciate your help (both posts)...

I just worked on an 05 today with bluetooth and had to test it... all it took was hitting "find devices" on my phone then putting in the passkey in the phone as well. Worked perfectly.

I just followed the instructions in the Bluetooth Manual that came with the car. The pairing worked like they said. I don't have it handy to recit, if you don't have it.

If you sign up at bmwusa.com, and put in your vin, they come up with an owner's manual, and a interactive video type thing on pairing your device with your vehicle.

i just had my bt reprogrammed, and had to try a couple of times to pair the phone.

My tech called today and they need the X until Friday...only had it a week and it has been in the shop for half of my shelf life...Hopefully when I get it back they'll have everything fixed. I hope the BT works...

Thanks for the help -- worked fine for my blackberry storm but didnt work at all for my wife's phone -- she has an LG VX8700. dont know if that's a phone that works with the system or not. I was able to pair the LG, however, it tried to load the phonebook for 5 minutes and I gave up. Needless to say, now my wife is demanding a blackberry...ugh! I'd rather spend the extra $ on mods...oh well as they say, "A happy wife leads to a happy life" right?

When it comes to a an X5 All phones with bluetooth are not equal.
It's a by the phone basis. My Palm wasn't suppose to work at all
but come to find out it does. However there was one caveat. In order
to dial the phonebook in the X the numbers had to be in listed in
"Favorites" in the palm otherwise the X looked and looked for numbers
to download but found nothing.

Does that mean your wifes LG will work? Can't say but there are
circumstance where phones that are not suppose to work, will work

the problem is the lg software. i have an lg vue, and the phonebook won't load either. i forget exactly the terminology, but there are 2 types of software - one that will allow access to the phonebook and one that won't. the lg has the latter.

at least, that was according to an lg site that i found. frustrating, but not the car's fault.

I just purchased a 2005 X5. This has the Navigation computer.
On the steering is the R/T and the voice button. On the Nav is the telephone button, I have a plastic sheet listing with the "Passkey" that says: PK XXXXX.

I'm assuming that my vehicle has BT. However, when I press the R/T or the voice button, key in position 1, or started. Nothing happens on the screen.

am I missing something?

As the initial pairing instructions are different with different setups, the easiest thing to do would be to rear the instructions in the manual... otherwise I'm sure someone who has that setup and remembers off hand will chime in.

I've followed numerous instructions on this board on pairing. I can't seem to ever get the "Pairing" or "Active Phone" display on my MID or cluster.

I went as far as opening the audio compartment, I believe I have a BT antenna, which is mounted on the top of the rack that contains the DVD for the nav. I also believe I have a device thats referred to as the TCU or the ULF. But I'm not sure which unit I have, this was seen after removing (unscrewing) teh black cover just below to the right of the rack. This silver device is mounted sideways on the rack, has a big plug on one end what looks like a UHF connector on the other.

I'm at a loss, I'm really not sure whats going on or how to get this working.

Any help would be appreciated.

The dealer should do it for you! I just bought my 2006 X5 and had the phone working including my phonebook in less than 30 seconds. The salesman did it. (Maybe it's cuz I'm a "girl"???)

I have an iPhone if that helps. I've used many Bluetooth devices and it's very phone-dependent. I have a bluetooth device on my motorcycle helmet and had dicey luck with Samsung and iPhone but not with Motorola and Sanyo. I will say, the BT technology in the X5 seems more sophisticated to others I've used.

And tell your wife she should get an iPhone, it will change her life!! I look at other phones now and shake my head. I have friends with Blackberrys and they drool when they get ahold of my iPhone. The only problem with getting your wife an iPhone is that you will soon want one! Trust me.

I got my passcode when I bought the X5....the salesman handed me a cardboard with all the necessary info including the pass code.

did you follow the instructions to pair?

you have to press the centre pairing button, with the key in the ignition, then the display says that its ready to pair... the instructions are somewhere, i cant find them at the moment :)

If I am correct the OP has a 2005.
The 2005 does not have a Pair button (centre console).
So those instructions do not apply in this case.

I erased all the previous bluetooth pairings on my iphone and put it into finding mode. I put the key into position 1, pressed the r/t button on the steering wheel and then entered the passkey into my iphone. It worked. I had to get the passkey off the box in the rear well. This is for a 06/05 production 4.4i with Nav.
