Passing along information provided to me from a Treo 650 user

my ENTIRE CONTACTS (459 in all) to the vehicle. This makes sense to me
because with my Motorola E815, I also had over 400 numbers in the
Bluetooth memory. I have a 2005 X5 4.8iS, a Motorola E815 (Verizon) and a
Palm Treo 650 (Verizon) and they all work great. Here are the steps:

1) CLEAR ANY “TRUSTED SOURCES” from the Treo 650.
2) Initialize a BLUETOOTH PAIRING
3) Perform Bluetooth pairing (but once the session is complete and the
BMW gives the confirmation BEEP, do not power cycle the car, leave as
is)
4) Go to contacts (here you can do whichever category, “ALL”,
“BUSINESS”, etc) and drop down the menu and choose “SEND CATEGORY”.
5) You will see the Treo 650 “PREPAIRING” and then “SENDING” with no
error messages. (Note you can also send just individual contact if you
want, but again, they must be done in the initial pairing state.)
6) Power cycle the car and now you should have your entire phonebook (I
have 459 contacts so far and did not have any problems). Special Note:
Special characters which loaded fine with my Motorola E815 such as
accents on name will not load with the TREO 650, instead, it will give a
“(M) WINDOWS1252” message, but again, no error messages.

Jeff, thanks for passing the info. But I don't know if I would want all my hundreds of address book contacts to be transferred (now that I could)....Could you imagine scrolling through your "directory" in your car....but that is kewl.

Just curious, he didn't mention which carrier Treo he had? (Verizon, Sprint, or Cingular?)

Great news! Thanks for passing this along...

I just tried that and still doesn't work for me. I get an error message that it could not send my contacts to the BMW, and then I get caught in the re-start loop. Anyone else know a way to get the Treo650 to work on Verizon's service?

Since I got the -522 ULF installed in my X5, I was wondering how to transfer the phone book and I remember UCrew had this info....This was confirmed by another VERIZON Treo 650 user who retrofitted a -522 ULF in his E38 7-series. Use Verizon Treo 650 firmware 1.04 (the latest one).

Here is his post from Bimmerboard.com's bluetooth forum:

Here is what I did.

1) I held the pairing button for two second

2) While holding the pairing button, I turn key to position 1 for two more seconds, then I released the pairing button.
You should see Bluetooth Pairing on the screen

3) I held the pairing button for again for 10 second, to delete any paired devices. Once complete you will hear double tones, and the screen should paired devices deleted.

4) On the Treo 650, I went into the Bluetooth section and delete the BMW device. Then I went thru the steps to pair the phone with the car.
After I received the confirmation beep, to acknowledge phone was added.

5) On the Treo 650, I opened my contacts view. Using the drop down menu button on the Treo, I then selected "Send Category". The next screen I selected Bluetooth, next I checked BMW ULF and pressed "OK"
The list of contacts was sent very quickly.

At this point I was expecting the nav message to change, to confirm the contacts were received. But the screen continued to show "Bluetooth Pairing". So I waited for about 4 minutes, then turn the ignition off. I waited a few minutes, then started the car.

That was it.
Good Luck

I am using Bmw ULF 522, on the Treo OS, I am using V1.04.

Here is a good bit of information on resolving Bluetooth issues with the different phones, including info on Phonebook transferhttp://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/159173
