What BT phone do you have?
On your steering wheel, the left lower area, there is button for "answering" and "ending" calls...well, if you hold the button for 3-5 seconds, you will activate voice recognition. State "Help" and they will tell you what commands are available. You can dial number directly. However, it has it's own separate phone directory that you can store numbers associated with names in there (doesn't use the phone book from your phone).


Also, the first BT/Assist module -993 did NOT have voice recognition for the phone....only the -114 and -056 has voice recognition for the phone only (no nav commands).[/QUOTE]

I have the Verizon Motorola E815. BT seems to be working perfectly, but I cannot seem to utilize voice recognition function above. I have the brand new -056 TCU. Interestingly, if I push the voice recognition button on the phone, I can speak through the car's mike and it works....any ideas? Maybe disable the phone's voice recognition? Thanks for your help!

re: question #1; Do you mean that there is no power and/or that there is no signal from the antenna? Please be more specific. BTW, I also have BT and the E815 with the eject box and snap in adapter. I have voice recognition with mine, but I bought the ULF module from Advanced Autovations. Mine is a 2002 built in 11/01.

Hmm.what did you have before? I have a 7/04 build, and my stlr told me I had Assist and BT..Is this another "fib"? Or do I really have it?

Can anyone confirm that the -056 TCU has voice activation? I can't seem to get it to work -- could it be a coding issue?

My phone is Motorola E815 (on the BMW approved list)

Try putting in a jumper from Pin 11 to 14 on the plug coming from the cradle. That's what I had to do.

Confirmed, TCU ending in 056 has Voice Activation.

Not sure if it’s optional via coding.

does this imply that the cradle is necessary for voice activation to work? Right now I do NOT have the eject box/cradle installed...just the wireless bluetooth connection.

No it is not. I just thought of something else. Did you install the jumper on the blue VR plug in the back??

Look for this plug in the area of the CD changer etc...This plug shuld have a female jumper plugged in to it. The picture shown is without the jumper installed.
