Do I Need BMW ASSIST for Bluetooth to Work?

i have the telephone option on my MID, but i can not connect to bluetooth. so i brought my X to service for a few things and asked them if they could reset or figure out why i cant connect. i got a phone call from my SA a little while ago saying that i need BMW ASSIST in order for my TCU to be acctivated? is this true? i dont want to sign up for ASSIST if i dont need to. Thanks

I haven't had assist for over 3 years

There telling you this because they don't
know what they are talking about.
So...... in order to help you here's a suggestion

You need to provide "WAY" more information.
Vehicle type,year,model,
Cell phone type ect.

The feature is there, but are you getting into the pairing screen? Your cellphone won't pick up the BMW bluetooth signal until you start the pairing process.

Read the above article, get to the pairing screen, make sure you have your passcode which should have been included with your owners manual. If you don't have the passcode, you'll need to have the dealer look it up.

my bluetooth problem is finally over. while at service last week, and this is the 3rd time i asked them to check it, i asked them to reset it and have a look at it because i could not connect to it. they found out that my TCU was frozen. they replaced the TCU and now it works great. i had a twenty minute conversation with my cousin through the bluetooth, when we were just about done i asked him how it sounds and when i told him i was using the bluetooth the whole time he could not believe me. he said it sounded great.

the only issue is that my contacts do not come up. what kind of phone are you using that shows the contacts? i have been using the a sidekick for a while now and am looking to get a new phone. i have T-Mobile and whould like to know what kind of phone works great with the bluetooth and transfers the contacts over to the car. i was think maybe the new g1? any suggestions? thanks for the help.
