Bluetooth install guide, manual, and..
 

I migrated the ULF/mic/etc from my old M3 to the '05 X5. I've encountered two problems:
- Antenna cabling is not straight forward
- Don't know the BT controls/interface on a non-Nav system

Hoping someone has working links to both the X5 OEM Bluetooth install guide and a [non-nav] Bluetooth manual.

Sure,

In a BT/Visteon install I'm not sure whether the first/only antenna should be at the front or rear.

There's the purple connector in the arm rest.

There's four antenna jacks in the back:
- White: fits ULF perfectly
- Blue: doesn't fit ULF (grooves are staggard at 180')
- Purple (both female and male connectors, already connected to each other - grooves are not identical to ULF but can be forced)

The confusing part is that the front seat connector is purple. My assumption is that leads to one of the rear purple connectors, neither of which were available (without disconnecting them from each other), and neither of which fit the ULF perfectly (grove pattern was slightly off, but worked).

With the Visteon module you get a separate ULF antenna cable that conects to the ULF module at one end, and the ULF antenna at the other end (small square box loking thing). The male/female purple connectors in the back are supposed to be connected thus utilizing the car's internal antenna. The purple fakra connector up front conects to the fakra connector in the eject box if you get one, thus completing the circuit to use the car's internal antenna.. Does that make sense?

Sounds like the purple connector in the arm rest is not needed for a base BT install in the X5.

I do have the antenna module you mentioned but wasn't sure whether to install it in the front or back (in the M3 it was actually installed in the center console but it's the wrong gender connector for the X5's arm rest connector).

Based on your response I believe I should connect the antenna to the rear purple connector and connect the white connector to the ULF (I've seen pictures of the purple connector connected to the ULF as well, but no idea where the antenna is in those installs).

Any idea how to pull up the signal strength display on the HU? I could really use this to validate the antenna connection.

Regardless, I'll post some pics tonight.

- Correct, it isn't. Only if you want to use the eject box and the car's antenna.
- The antenna module installs at the top of the componet rack (where the CD changer is) with 2 plastic nuts. See page 4 of this LINK for a diagram.
- I'm not sure what you mean by "I should connect the antenna to the rear purple connector" Which antenna are you referring to? Refer to install instructions in the link above to answer any remaining questions. I think that will explain it :D
- I'm not sure what an "HU"is, but if you snap your phone into the snap-in adapter , just read the bar strength by opening the flip. If there aren't any bars, then the antenna is not connected properly. There is no way to read signal strength via the MID btw.
