The Storm did not break it. That is virtually impossible. If the dealer held to that story, I would be pretty forceful in pushing the service shop to show you an official BMW document that states an incompatible phone can break a Bluetooth module.

AWESOME!!!! Thank you for that info. It now arms me with knowledge and courage to face the BMW tech. I'll test one of the "compatible" phone to see if it works. If it does work, then great! It's just my phone and the bluetooth is still alive. If it does NOT work, then the bluetooth is "broke". It's broke NOT because I used my Storm, but more likely for other reasons. I'm still under my 50K warranty, so hopefully they'll fix it at their cost.
Wish me luck, guys. I'm so glad I found ya'll!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Tom |
Yay, it's working!!!!
I tried another phone and it works!!! So, I'm really happy now. But, I'm also very mad at the BMW tech. Can you imagine what would of happened if I trusted them and gave them $900 to fix it when it wasn't even broke? Gives me a chil how they can be like that. Anyways, I'm fixed up and I just need to get new phone. Thank you all for you help!!!! -tom |
All I can say is WOW.....some of the tactics these people will try to stop you from getting warranty work. If the tech had any damn sense, he would've tried a "compatible" BMW approved phone before opening his damn mouth......Phil
Weasel....does this lack of knowledge set you off when you see it? Are tech's hired for their payrate or knowledge these days? |

And one of the main problems I see in shops nowadays is the overflow of people going to UTI tech schools and STEP programs that are guaranteed a job position when they graduate. Almost any idiot that shouldn't be a tech can graduate the school then be given a job at a dealer like BMW, but they can't diagnose shit and can barely change parts. (those don't last long though) Meanwhile, they are also hired at a set pay grade regardless of the skill level. So, yes... corrupt politics happens everywhere. |
You're welcome,
But before you go out and get a new phone read weasels post carefully. The part where he says "you simply need to delete the paired phone list from the vehicle and delete the car from the phone them just reset the connection is very important. I had to do the same thing with my palm 3 times before it decided it would work....;) Quote:

I have BT in both my E83 and E46 and have used just about every model of HTC phones with both and never had an issue. The E46 is a bit slower but works to my satisfaction. I don't understand the methodology that some dealers use to justify the creative use of service. When I first installed the BT module in the E46 (most of the information came from Europe) I had spoken to two local dealers regarding said use of BT. They really didn't have a clue and were not even aware that it existed as a retrofit on an E46 (years ago). The sad part of all of this is that the consumer is now more knowledgable of the vehicle that they spend much money on and many dealers are still treating customers in a condescending manner. Historically I noticed this with MB dealers in FL on my E series.

continued use of non-approved bluetooth headsets cause the TCU to overheat. this has been proven in the field.
