BT on my '03 X5

After the "fuzzy dice" mod you guys did for me this weekend :D, I now have the Mod fever, and want to install BT on my '03 X5.

I did a search, and found this article from IFlyX5 (thanks, by the way).

I just want to verify that this is all I need. Any new info or additional tips or tricks? I do not have Nav or BMW Assist.

Keafer,

Whats the build date on your X??
The standard rule of thumb had been that you had to have a 3-04 build or later to install the 05 TCU and have BT and Assist. The attached TSB seems to contradict this a bit.

I have a 3-04 (early production)with Nav and assist and all that was needed is the TCU, BT antenna and its connector cable, thats it. You've got to get it coded.

It looks like the late production 04's have the BT antenna already installed.

This new TSB is perfect, i wish i'd had it when i did mine a couple of months ago.

Good luck..........

Not meaning to hijack, but how good is the blue tooth mod? I have heard that some blue tooth systems have poor sound quality and that they can break up or lost connection altogether. Is it really worth the $700-800?

Maybe my comments are not applicable, since my BT was built-in, not added afterwards. For what it is worth, I have had excellent sound quality from my end. The people to whom I am talking have occasionally said it sounded "like a speakerphone" (well, duh!!) but still clear and crisp.

My 2002 has a build date of 11/01. I had to buy the BT kit from AdvancedAutovations, the eject box and a snap-in adapter. Mine works perfectly. You probably won't need to get it coded, I didn't.

Juan

Build date is located on the driver's side door jamb.

Peter's (IFlyX5) write-up should show you what needs to be done and what parts are needed

Juan...all you need is one ULF module..and one BT install kit. You may want to contact Rob_ and see what he can do for you. Everything is plug and play...I am not sure if yours will need to be recoded or not...Rob_ coded mine to eliminate any problems.
