Adding V710 snap-in

So BlueTooth is working fine now in my 5/04 production X5. The dealer upgraded me to the combo BT/Assist module and it works great with the V710 running 1.02SD. Now I think I want the new snap-in adapter for the 710 that replaces the oddment tray. I saw it in someone else's car and it wouldn't charge the phone. Apparently the dealer tells me there are two snap-ins. One that has a pairing button and doesn't charge and one that has no button (not needed w/'05 module) and does charge the phone.
I asked the dealer parts department locally here what I would need to put in the one that charges. The parts guy researched it and called me back to say I'd need the following (wondering if this right):

- Dock $~140 Part # 84210393570

- Eject module (?) $~72 Part # 842169334151

- Base plate for bumper antenna $~82.50 Part # 84216946063

- Bumper Antenna $~63.75 Part # 32684111470326

Seems like a lot of stuff, but have heard I'd need an antenna since Assist uses the one in the car already. Any guidance appreciated.

You need the eject box AND the snap in adapter. That makes no sense, since my snap in is that same part number you have listed, and mine isn't charging, so it is probably the eject box that is different from mine. My eject box HAS the pairing button.

If you want to buy the snap in Phil, let me know. I'd like to get rid of it since I'm using a Treo 650 now.

Is there a way to connect the Treo 650?

Connect in what way? Rangerfan is connecting his Treo 650 to the integrated phone system via the Bluetooth interface. There is no snap-in adaptor available for the Treo 650, however.

Snap In on Combo Assist/BT module -993

The most recent BMW TSB specifically states that "the snap in adapters should not be used in 2004 X5's with the new 2005 Assist/BT retrofitted" (or something to that effect) Read the new TSB before you start messing with a snap in adapter...

What TSB? Does anyone have access to it? I have a 2004 with the old -552 module and old eject box, and my snap in still doesn't work. So we're missing some bit on info here.

Rangerfan;

there is a new version of SIB 84-13-04. Updated "March 05". I downloaded and printed this the other day (I thought from the bluetooth page on X5 world, but of course now I can't find it). I am travelling or would email it to you. I am 100% sure about this. It says that 3/04 thru 10/04 X5's can install the new TCU. It also gives the instruction for the dealer to re-code, but does also say that the snap in adapter's won't work. No explanation as to why.

I think my solution will be to update my Assist/BT TCU to the -993 part, then find a simple aftermarket charge / antenna type connection and install in the center oddment tray.

Anybody else have access? IFLY? Bueller?

Thanks anyway.

RF - Since BMW more or less disavolves itself that Bluetooth will even work in the 2004's, it's possible that the 2004 vehicles have the same wiring compatibility issue as the 2005's :dunno:

All the same, we are talking about identifying which wire is positive and which wire is negative and wiring that puppy up. TripleX5, where are you on this? I can't believe that he hasn't figured out a solution to this. ;)
