Bluetooth sync issue

Hey All,

Just wanted to drop a note forum to see if anyone has had this issue and knows of a remedy.

Just picked up two new phones, a BlackBerry and an HTC Incredible. Both of which are compatiable with the Continental series BT in my X3. My BBerry won't "discover" the BT and my wifes HTC did discover the BT but it doesn't really work.

I noticed that when i try to sync my BBerry (and presumably this is causing issues with my wife's HTC) her old LG phone is "paired" with the BT even though her old LG phone is not on nor paired with the BT. Her phonebook from the LG and the LG model number are listed on the "Telephone" screen, but the phone clearly isn't paired or on.

So here is the question, i have taken the negative terminal off the battery and the BT still thinks her LG (old phone) is on and connected to BT...is there any way to "clear" the memory of the BT so i can sync/pair my new phones?

Thanks a lot,

Jon

I don't believe you have to delete the old phone. It is supposed to support up to 4 phones.

Did you follow the instructions found HERE in the Articles section of Xoutpost? I have found that if I didn't follow them exactly, things didn't work very well.

To the letter of the instructions...no i didn't i will try this exact procedure, even though my pairing process in the past has not followed this exact procedure. I will say that if the car already thinks there is a phone "paired" and connected, it won't pair another phone.

Thanks, i'll give it a try this evening. Also my x3 is a early model (9/04 mfg date) and i had a new TCU installed about a year ago so i don't know if that invalidates any of the ULF instructions above, but again that was helpful, so thank you.

Solved half of my problem. Since the phone was syncing with a phantom phone, i just pulled out my wifes old LG and powered it on and then powered on the BMW, while the BMW was syncing with the phone (this time for real) i just turned the LG phone off and that terminated the connection.

I then had my new BBerry search for BT devices and viola...connected...and phone book download. That part is now done and fixed.

The 50% i haven't quite figured out is my wifes HTC Incredible will sync and pair and then lose the connection. It will sync for about 3 seconds and then lose the connection...it is very weird and yes i am sitting in the drivers seat while this is happening, so it shouldn't be a distance thing.

Anyone have any thoughts on my second matter?

Is your BB in your pocket at the same time? It can only pair with one device at a time. Perhaps the BB is stealing the connection? Even if the BB is in the house, it might be close enough to connect. Make sure the BB battery is out, then try the HTC.

The BBerry was powered off in the car...the car noticed the disconnection and was no longer paired to the phone. I then attempted to connected (as it was paired previously) and it fades in and out...kind of like a weak wireless connection at a wifi hotspot with your laptop (as an example).

Sorry my simple solution didn't help. Since the HTC Incredible is so new, I haven't heard if anyone else has successfully paired with a BMW. Perhaps another thread specifically titled to get the attention of those who might be able to answer this. Good luck.

Any luck Shupadupa? I have the motorola droid and I've been able to pair it but not connect it. Checked for software updates too, but everything is up to date. Before I wasn't even able to pair it, but solved that by pulling the fuses and I guess reseting it.

Actually no luck with the HTC Incredible. I don't think the 2.2 firmware update has reached my wife's phone yet, but we haven't tried to sync it in a couple weeks. lemme see if it works now...

Nope, still not working, fades in and out of "connected" and "paired not connected." And we are still on the 2.1 firmware.

thanks for checking, same here... :/

I have noticed that when the code associated with the car does not match to the phone it will connect and then drop when the code can not be verified.

shupadupa 06-22-2010 09:31 AM

And when you say "code" are we talking about the BMW code that it requests when initially pairing the phone with the car? Or are you talking about some other code?

The phone knows it is paired with the BMW it just fades in and out of connected status. This seems to be very common with HTC android phones and BMW. If you do a google search on the topic there are tons of threads on other forums about BT connectivity and HTC/android phones. Which leads me to believe it is an HTC matter not a bimmer matter.

Someone one of the threads was uttering something to do with the HTC-android phones don't talk to the SPP bluetooth we have in the BMW.

I am still running 2.1 on my HTC desire (Orange UK) in my E46 (330 ci) and never had any problems synchronizing my address-book with he car. I get the occasional connection drop if, when I attempt to call someone, I hang up before they answer the phone or it goes to answerphone. Apart from that it works OK. Some people on an android forum though seem to have problems synchronizing their contacts, most of these people have trouble with contacts that have pictures. Mine are all OK, even the ones with a picture. Just a though. Are your contacts google contacts, phone contacs or sim contacts? I only have phone contacts.
