Bluetooth iPod options
 

Hi all.

I have recently picked up my 2002 4.4 X5 with OEM Nav and DSP. It doesn't have bluetooth.

What I'm looking for is a no fuss, OEM looking BT kit and/or seperate iPod kit. In regards to the BT, all I want is that it answers the call at the push of a button, an existing OEM steering wheel mount preferably, and that you can make calls from the phone that will connect via BT. Obviously that is the my base requirement, so any extras no probs. I don't really need the voice call or the SMS functions etc.

In regards to the iPod, all I want is to display the title, artist info and have the ability to scroll and/or shuffle.

Now I have looked into the Dice mediabridge system, but from all I have read, it sounds as if you can only use BT whilst in the mediabridge mode?? So this doesn't work during normal free to air radio?

All I want is to get in my car, start it up, and should I receive a call, push a button and talk to the dude, then push another button and hang up.

Your thoughts people?

Budget? Money no object the very best system is an Intravee II + Alpine iPod adapter. For the phone consider the connects2 equipment. They make a plug and play BT kit, or an adapter for the CK3000EVO and CK3100. Be cautious of the DSP. On some years it uses a digital audio link, making it incompatible with some analogue implementations of aux and phone.

I want to do the same, and have the same spec — how do I work out which lead will work? Am I best just heading to an audio shop?

You can only add an Aux In with a cheap lead if you have a BM54 and can solder. Else you are looking at the same options as Milsy. An audio shop won't be as much use as all the information and suppliers on here. And they will do a hack job on your car's beautiful wiring.

It was doing my head in, all the 'you can add this, this and this and maybe it will work but with some limitations', so I just ordered the Dice Mediabridge 1500. Trolling the internet was making my eyes funny. There are obvious limitations, however Im sure I will find more once installed.

It's a 95% of the solution choice. All you have to do is hit Mode when the phone rings. Not the end of the world.

Yeah, I'd rather do the install myself to be honest.

Looks like I can get a Connects2 interface thingy for my car — how do I tell if mine's a quad-lock 40-pin, or a round 30-pin?

Their literature says it works with a business/professional system. So will that include my Nav/DSP setup?

Again you need to search on the DSP system and it's digital interface. This will define which MB-1500 to buy. I say this cos I'm not liking the extra display the Connects2 has, when the mediabridge can do it through the car's display. The only connects2 i'd get would be the phone only version or the CK3000EVO interface kit.

As to whether you have 40 or 17 pin, the only way to be sure is look in the boot at the tuner. It's under the carpet near the seats on the left I think.

If you have a BM54 (40 pin) you can add a simple aux in for about a tenner using one of the guides on here or E46 fanatics.

Are you referring to the top picture? If it's the silver box, then I think that's for the built-in Motorolla phone, not BT.

That can be converted to BMW BT. Cost is circa £200, benefits are caller ID on the radio, good sound and if you have a BM54, a fade in/fade out audio muting, BMW Eject box support.

Milsy, how do you like the dice mediabridge? I also have a 4.4 x5 w Nav/DSP and I've been looking for a bluetooth solution too.

Any other mediabridge users on this thread? How is the call quality & user friendliness?

how can i know mine have the bluetooth and if i want to have all fo the function of bluetooth ,calls ,voice call or the SMS functions and so on ,is that possible ...
