Problem Pairing phone

I have a 04 X3 with a Bluetooth passkey... can't seem to pair my phone. I've heard that several have been able to use the Audiovox smartphone (which is what I have), but I can't figure this out. Can anyone just spell it out simply? I've tried everything I've read. Let's just assume I'm not from this planet when coming up with an clear explanation of this.

This may help. http://www.xoutpost.com/file-bmw_bt_phones.htm

Thanks, but no - I read that already, and I don't have a "kit" in my vehicle. I was told I did not need one, that my phone would work seamlessly with the vehicle. Not so. Yet another misconception (lie) I was lead to believe at the dealership and by BMW. Any X3 produced between 03/04 - 08/04 has compatibility issues between the supposed BT and Assist systems - and BMW has no intentions of fixing it at their expense.

The technology in a GMC is better than my BMW.

I have heard of a petition that people can sign regarding this compatibility issue: http://www.petitiononline.com/mc1981/petition.html

Like the X5's, I assume that the 2004 X3 has the combo Assist/Bluetooth module that has the Bluetooth portion non-functional. The module can be replaced with a 2005 module to give you Bluetooth, but that is at your expense.
