Telephone Buttons Not Working

I picked up my new 2006 X5 a month ago, and bought a bluetooth phone (not 100% compatible, but still able to pair the device). All of a sudden on day none of the telephone buttons work (bot steering wheel and dash). I took it to the dealer, and they could find no "codes" or otherwise figure out the problem. They said there may be a new "software download" but I have heard nothing further from them. Has anyone esle experienced this problem? Does what they are telling me make sense? Although I never had bluetooth before, I feel like now I am lost without it. Please advise.

Does Assist still work? BT and Assist share the same module, and it's possible that it has gone bad. The dealer should be able to rectify this problem fairly easily, I would think.

Thanks, I will try that.

I may be way off base with this but the R/T button on the steering wheel seems to lock out other buttons on the steering wheel. Pressing it again releases the lock and wala everything works again.

UCrewX5: The Assist does not work, and I will let the dealer know this. Thanks again for your help

For vehicles equipped with it, the Assist button is located up in the overhead console by the sunroof switch. It's not available in all markets, and I'm not sure if Australia is one that it is or not :dunno:

Assist stopped working in my 04 X5 and I had upgraded the TCU so I could have both bluetooth and assist. Dealer was giving me a hard time because the TCU I had "doesn't belong in my car". Long story short they opened a PUMA case and the new TCU (2 revisons from my P/N) is on backorder / limited availability and can only be ordered via BMW tech. Hopefully it will be here soon. I've already contacted BMW Assist to request to have the money I paid for the assist service for the last 8 month refunded (or applied to my account).
Not sure what is going on, but there seem to be a lot of X5s with Assist failing.

Jeff,

That is discouraging news. I reported the assist connection to my dealer, and now they say they understand the issue. My car goes in again next week. They told me that if the module needs to be replaced, they will have to order it, and the unit is VIN specific (I assume due to the GPS). I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the responses.

Update:

They replaced the module at the dealer, and it has worked for a week or so. I used it this morning on my way to the office. Went to lunch, and the same problem has recurred. I guess I am back to the dealer!
