Android phones and ULF?

I have an older ULF (6th generation, if I remember correctly) which I installed when the original Motorola RAZR came out (I started with the v710, but left Verizon over the v710 Bluetooth fiasco).

It is time for me to move into the new century and get a new phone. I'm looking at a number of different Android models.

Does anyone have any experience with Androids and the ULF? If so, I'm particularly interested in hearing if the older ULFs will work or if I need to upgrade to the latest 84-10-9-154-358.

This is in a 2003 E46 wagon, which has the most inconvenient place possible for the ULF - it is actually up inside the left rear wheel well. The whole navigation / CD frame has to come out, along with the acoustic padding, to get to the spot where the ULF mounts. I'd rather not have to do that again if I can avoid it, and I DEFINITELY don't want to do it only to have thing still not work with the latest ULF.

Android phones and Bluetooth are hit and miss. I recommend you identify specific models and then research the phone models with some google searches. The problem is that the phone makers do not implement BT consistently within the Android space.

Just to report back with how this worked out. My older ULF (84-21-6-945-387) was able to receive and answer calls on the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx (Android 2.3.5), as well as showing the phone book and being able to read / delete SMS messages. However, dialing from the ULF, either by voice or from the phone book, initiates the call but the audio is on the phone, not the car, and the car thinks the call has been abandoned. Not particularly useful.

The latest ULF (84-10-9-154-358) works just fine for all functions.

Just out of interest, did the phone book entries come through ok?
I have Android 4.0.3 and use the "+" sign for the international dial code on the phone but on my BMW the phone book doesn't receive them! It did from the sales guys iPhone though.

I composed a wonderfully complete post and hit "Preview", and this site gave me a "You cannot post to this page" error.

I'm not going to re-create the whole post from scratch, but yes, my phonebook entries transfer fine. I'm not using international dialing + codes, though.

I report my experience:

my SGS II 4.0.3 with ULF of 5th (sept '04) generation works properly (in my 3 series e46).
The phonebook does not pass to the car. Previously I had a SE k800i working fine for phonebook and SMS.

But it is possible to send the contacts to ULF for to store them.
You can do it after the pairing operation: do not put the on 0 position but wait in pairing mode and share the contacts from your phone to the car by bluetooth.

In this way you are able to send the contact to the ULF for to see them on the display of your Bmw!

Try it!

Iīm sorry, i didnīt got you there. what do you mean by "do not put the on 0 position"? when exporting contacs the phone tries to send a vfc or vcf file, is that correct one? if so, my ulf didnīt want to accept it :dunno:

Solved :thumbup::

pair the phone and the ulf like normal, but do NOT switch the ignition off. instead of this, send the contacts with bluetooth (manually, as i have a modded SGS2 firmware AOKP3) and then shut the ignition off. turn it on again and the phonebook is available. ULF is 6980130 with SES and its working fine, now even with the phonebook
