Bluetooth Module Question

Hi,

Just wanna know if the bluetooth module that is usually purchased aftermarket from eis, is it an origional visteon bmw model? or an thrid party kit.
if anyone has an idea. the dealor is asking $850 for full install, wonder if worth it?

thanks.

The kit I just bought from EIS is a BMW factory kit with all the necessary parts to enable bluetooth and voice recognition. The boxes had BMW markings and factory part nos. on them, and is a Visteon type unit. The instructions are written for a BMW tech to install, but are easy enough for anyone to DIY (It took me about an hour). Basically, you get a factory kit for a discounted price. My kit cost a little under $700 which included the bluetooth module w/voice recog., eject box w/pairing button, and snap in adapater to hold my Motrola E815. Note that this price included a snap in adapter which you may or may not need or want, so you can delete it for even lower cost. I didn't need an antenna because you can just use your existing BMW Assist antenna (I had to remove the BMW Assist module in my '04). EIS was really great with any questions I had too, and made sure I got all the right parts the first time. Talk to Randy at EIS, he was very helpful.

EIS actually sells both the OEM retrofit kit as well as an aftermarket kit. You can decide which you want based on your needs and what you want to spend.

What is the build date for your X5 (located on the driver side door jamb)?

All of the Visteon modules are basically the same. The -552 seems to be the one that BMW has the most stock of, making it the one most generaly available.

it has a built date of 12/03.

Then you will want a Visteon module. Functionality wise, they are basically all the same. If you can, get one as new as possible, but don't sweat it if your choices are limited. BMW seems to have a lot of the -552 modules in stock, so that's what most suppliers have to offer.

thanks,

Dane.
