Hobart BMW Tasmania
I ordered a new battery one month ago from Hobart Autohaus because the one that I had put in 2 years ago seemed not to want to hold its charge and needed constant charging. I must say that I thought its life of 2 years was pretty poor so I got the best one I could.
When we took the battery out ( we, meaning my neighbour and I - as I am unable to use my right hand for fine movements due to an injury) we found that the battery in the bike was the one I bought in 2003 in another state with its date still on it at 2003 and the type of battery matched the receipt I have dated 2003 from another service centre in another state.
Needless to say I contacted BMW here in Hobart only to be told that " well thats what you say" and saying virtually that I was a lying.
Rang Customer Relations in Melbourne who said they would check the story out but have not heard back so I have contacted the Magistrates Court and will be taking BMW Hobart to court over this issue.
The manager said that the service guys who would have changed the battery were now no longer at BMW but that is little regard to the fact that I paid neally $300 for something that was never put in my bike. I can see that this would be a nice little side line for someone especially as BMW does not seem to care or want to do anything about it.
If you are an old guy like me who is unable to do any service himself due to infirmity and age, particularly removing a battery, then you are left only with the honesty of the service people. Pity for BMW though that I have kept all my service history on my K1 ever since I bought it showing everything that has been done or replaced since new. Also my neighbour, an Engineer, will sign a Statutory declaration saying that the battery he took out of my bike was an old one dated 2003.
Just keep an eye on this little game though. I just wanted to let you know that the service people at Hobart BMW believe that its better to infer lying by the owner than try and sort out a problem.
I have been a professional person for 55 years, I have owned 6 BMW cars and several BMW motorbikes I do not like it being inferred that I tell lies and make things up. I expect service at a BMW service centre and this now means that I willl never return to that place nor buy another BMW again and or will my wife.
