Recent MD Dealer Experiences?

I have not been on the boards in quite a while. I'm thinking about ordering a 2007 X5. I bought my 2003 from VOB in Rockville, and actualy had a pleasant time with the salesman. He no longer works there, and after reading numerous horror story post re: VOB, I'm looking for current opinions of other dealers. I'm in Howard Co, MD
TIA, David

Russel BMW (www.russelbmw.com)

The sales manager lives down the street from me and that is where I bought and have my X5 serviced.

:xoutpost: I don't care where you go but stay away from VOB. They are just a bunch of crooks, from service to sales. I agree with Wagner go to Russell or Passport BMW, both closer to you anyway!

Thanks for the quick replies!

Russell would be closer / more convenient to me than Passport. I'm just barely in Howard Co, just west of Clarksville, and work in Rockville.

Any knowledge of Tischer? I remember reading a few favorable opinions about them in my surfing. Their location would be very close to me.

Related question. The dark green 2007 color looks nice from the small paint chip images I have found, but I've yet to find a pic with that color on the car. Has anyone seen it?

David

Personally I believe Passport is the best in MD. I bought my first BMW there 6 years ago, but live too far away now. Definitely stay away from VOB; I've never heard anything good about that place. I use Tischer occasionally since I work directly across the street from them. I would probably rate them #2 behind Passport, but I have yet to buy from them, only service.

I'm using Russel to buy my 335i coupe now and they've really screwed me so far. They have big-time salespeople turnover and of course communication issues. They almost botched my Performacen Center delivery, but because of my contacts within BMWNA, I was able to fix that; with absolutely NO HELP AT ALL from Russel!!!!

Ryan - which sales manager at Russel do you know, David Lee?

First round of shopping

Well, since none of the dealers have a 2007 as yet, I figured I'd go and see what the deep metallic green & monaco blue look like on some 2007 3 & 5 series.

Next to VOB, Tischer would be the most convenient for me, so off to Montgomery Auto Park we went. What a disapointment. We couldn't even find a parking place on the first 2 circles around the lot, so we went to the MB dealer next door first, and looked at the GL450. Pretty nice truck, but too big & too much stuff I don't really want. The nicest thing about the MB's is that they actually have them.

Back to Tischer, and this time found a place to park. We ask for the salesman who replied to an email inquiry, and proceed to stand around for about 10 minutes. He finally shows up, and was a pretty pleasant guy, but did not seem to know much about the new cars. When we inquired about seeing colors on 3's & 5's, he did not even know which colors are coming on the 2007's. After educating him a little, we were able to find the deep green on the lot. NOT very attractive.

He was unable to come up with any literature for us. He then said there are no available order slots at this time. He suggested we give them a deposit, so they could 'reserve' us an order production slot 'when one becomes available'.

I sorry, but I have no intention of coughing up any change toward a $60k purchase to a dealer who can't tell or show me schist. Both the wife & I likened the whole "Tischer Experience" to a trip to discount store.

FWIW, the salesman at VOB I spoke to on the phone was at least able to email me a 120 page PDF file. He indicated about a 6 week lead time.

Many thanks to the X5world members for all the E70 info I've been able to find here. I think I will sit back & wait a while on this purchase. I want to see the Platinum Bronze color before making any decision. My PDF file indicates 12/08 production on this color. I'm hoping that is a typo. None of the other colors really grab me.

Frustrated in MD,
David

Sorry to hear about your trip to the dealer. I've seriously never met a salesman or anybody working at the stealership that knew more than I did about these cars. I seriously think they should require their salesman and technicians to check this board on weekly basis, at least it would make them sound a lil smarter... F*&@ckin thieves.

I'm a new guy on this forum and just purchased a 2006 X5 4.4 from VOB. They were the only dealer in the area with the color I wanted which was not overloaded with options. I delt with Tony and the overall experience was good. The X5 had some parking dings and a chip in the bumper but they were fixed in a few days to my satisfaction. I paid dealer invoice, probably helped by the $3K X5 4.4 BMW dealer incentive for November.Since I'm in Leesburg VA any required service will be performed by Sterling BMW.
