Car wash 1st time ?s

OK, my X5 is pretty dirty. THe last time it was claned was by the dealer when I gave it in for cd install. I want to get it washed. I know that brushless is bad for the paint. How about w/brushes like at Exxon and stuff, are those good. Or how about hand washes, but I also heard their rags damage paint job. If non of these are good, Ill wash it myself, what do I need? I have a power washer too..., but will that hurt the paint...?

Homes, you're gonna get grilled in the detailing forum- if you don't have Rose Royce's greatest hits blasting from your ipod you won't have an alibi for mentioning car wash

Different people= different opinions. Some praise the touchless, some think the brushless is ok, but the best thing to do is to put on some rubber gloves and soap that ride up yourself. Or get some friends to help!

I use a low-powered pressure washer to do my wheels and undercarriage and nothing has chipped off yet.

I would spend the 30 minutes to wash the exterior yourself.

1. Wash the wheels first make sure they are not hot (I use P21S Gel expensive but idiot proof)

2. wash the car with a good car wash (not dishwashing detergent), start by rinsing the car off from the top to bottom, then get your mitts sudded up and start washing from the top to bottom, I would wash the your X in a side to side motion, not circular. Take the nozzle off the hose and rinse the car off from the top to the bottom again.

2. Dry it with a waterblade, electric blower, microfiber waffle weave towel (again top to bottom)

3. Clean the windows

4. Dress the tires if you like

I think your done, help me if I missed anything.

If you need a place where they sell it all try www.adamspolishes.com

They have a kit of stuff that includes bucket with a lid, car wash, mitts, clay wax, instructional dvd.

Check the sit for the how to clips too it will help clear things up.

There is a promo code EAST and you get 10% off.

Good luck and have fun.

Don't go to the dealer for the most part they aren't so good.

Get a good detailer to do it, where are you located?

I use 90 degree water from a pressure washer - very hot. Never use the same sponge twice and use plenty of Car soap - triple wax wash etc etc

Don't use any special wheel cleaning rubish - many are acid based and will remove the laquer over time.

Never, never, never let a dealer do it and certianly never put it through a car wash.

Remember, no one will look after your car as much as you!!

Regards.

It probably varies from dealer to dealer. New Century BMW in Alhambra, CA has a wash tunnel with the usual scratch-enabled motorized brushes. I usually tell them to not wash my car but it's okay to vacuum it.
