I have one and would highly recommend one if you want to detail your X5 yourself. It's worth every penny. It saves a lot of time and effort to polish/wax your car.

The pc is the way to go. I have used mine for a couple of years. The results on my previous ride were amazing (97 Saab). The car had serious swirl marks and I was able to clean it up to the point were the paint looked brand new.
