Bad paint job, please help
I want purchase a polisher and see if I can fix what the bodyshop couldn't, at least the haze that's left behind. Can I remove the slight wave in the clear with a compound and a more aggressive polishing pad? (Orange pad) Or am I over my head? I was thing of purchasing the PC polisher and getting the Orange, White and Black pads? I was also planning on purchasing a compound or cutting polish, polish then a sealer. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. |

Honestly??? Unless you've done a LOT of professional *machine* polishing, there is a high-probability that you could burn your paint beyond repair. I would recommend one of two things to most people in this situation, either a) polish what you can *by hand* using various compounds of your choosing or b) bring the work to a more competent shop who can glaze and polish the surface again.
Just my 2 cents, hope that helps. Last edited by WolfX5; 09-18-2007 at 07:33 PM. |

Thanks for the reply, I acknowledge the fact that I may be over my head. I really wasn’t sure if it was something that I would be able to do on my own or look for a professional to do. Being that it is a black truck I imagine that I will have to polish and wax it several times a year. This is why I suggested the purchase of a polisher.
Would you suggest that I contact another body shop or a detailer for this job? |

Being that you described the problem as overspray with heavy clearcoat, a detailer would typically NOT be able to correct this type of poor workmanship. I would recommend another body shop altogether...

I would question whether it's heavy clearcoat creating body 'waves'. Those are usually created by a poor sanding job by an inexperienced person...
