Can't get rims clean
I am tempted to use a green scrub pad, which I am sure would take care of the stubborn black dots, but I don't want to scratch the rims. Also, if you look at the third pic, there is a scratch or something on the wheel spoke. Is it a scratch or something I can buff out? Any suggestions? |

This what i use when the wheels are really dirty.
Other than that 409 does the job http://www.pssales.com/products/wheel.html BRAKE BUSTER #N26 - Brake Buster, a non-acid wheel cleaner, safely removes accumulated brake dust and light corrosion from premium quality wheels without damaging the delicate surface. Brake Buster is a unique cleaning gel that adheres to the wheel surface and penetrates the brake dust allowing it to be rinsed away. Brake Buster has been specifically formulated to clean like acid products but without the risk or the acid. Use Brake Buster for all wheel cleaning applications.

You may want to also consider using Softscrub liquid. I use it all the time on my E53's non-chrome wheel finishes and it gets virtually all of those little particles off without any residual effects.

You can also try the cheapo method of good ol' WD40.

Noobie here!
I have the same problem with the wheels on my newly acquired 05 X5. I tried WD40, metal polish and household cleaner and none of those worked. It appears that the brake dust has etched into the wheel. Maybe Break Buster will be the fix. I'll post results. Great forum! Bruce |

I read somewhere that detailers use hot water with cleaning products to clean baked brake dust.
