Phone snap-in adapter question

I am wondering if the phone snap-in adapter/ejector box and frame assembly for the center console on the 2008 x5 (e70) hinges up and out of the way to allow full access to the console storage space? I have never seen pictures of one installed in an e70. If anyone has pics that would help out alot. I just want to see how much space would be left in the console after install.

It takes a lot of space. Effectively, it takes about a third of the space of the center console. It does hinge up but I never do that.

I've attached two pics. An IMPORTANT note. The exposed cable that you see running from front to back should NOT be there --- it's the way that it was left after my do-it-yourself installation --- I could not feed it underneath and the dealer would take a whole lot more of the center console and front area apart if they were to do it.

For me, it was good thing to do while the RAZR V3 was my primary phone and I had to deal with the poor signal in my area. Now that my preferred phone is my iPhone 3G and I am getting a better signal on that, I don't use the RAZR V3 much --- that RAZR stays in my car permanently now as a backup...
