question, regarding shocks and Struts

I think is time for me to change mine, when i hit a bump i feel it alot, Now can I get advise what is the best brand, what will it go for, How much it will cost in a dealer as compare to an independent, Can i rely on an indi. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, I have a 2001, x5, 4.4 66000.

Some good shock/strut threads in that list...

the consensus seems to be oem is great, but Bilstien aftermkt is too...
either way, I would have a competent Indie do mine to save a qtr to
a third on labor, but I'm a cheapazz retired bum.
