Strait Pipe or X-Pipe

Hey all, I have Remus exhaust installed on my 4.4, but I would like to give it some more OOMF. After reading and printing out some info I found here on x5world regarding x-pipes and installation, I went to a local exhaust specialist. Options as listed: X-Pipe install would cost about $140, and he said it would add just a little extra sound to the Remus; Strait pipes would cost $100 and would just about DOUBLE the Remus sound. This makes me wonder, will the strait pipes be overwhelming on long highway road trips? Has anyone experienced strait pipes on a 4.4 x5? I know a lot of you prefer the x-pipe, but how do you all feel about the strait pipe!?!?!

Thanks!

if you search the forum you'll find that people who did straight through get that popping sound from the exhaust.

im actually planning on doing an x-pipe install tomorrow on my 4.4, with stock exhaust. i got an x-pipe 2.5" off ebay and also bought reducers and adapters to get to the near 2" pipe size. i hope that the increase to 2.5 doesn't cause problems, guess i'll find out. can anyone add some insight to this?

How did the install come out? What do you mean by popping, is it a good sound or bad??

Everything I researched here suggested to go x pipe vs. straight pipes. That's the way I decided to go and I really do like the sound. I have a stock 06 4.8is.

popping is bad.

the install came out great. it sounds much deeper but is not noticeable at cruising speeds, only when i get on it.

Excellent, I think I'll go with the x-pipe! I'm pretty excited to do some extra mods to my car this spring. First some umnitza headlights (on the way as we speak) then an aux input or iPod intregration kit, then some new shoes for my 20's, then the x-pipe! Its finally starting to look (and sound) like how i envisioned!

I was thinking about getting an x-pipe off ebay too. What are reducers and adapters? How much of a sound difference is the 3" vs. 2.5"?

On my other car (non BMW) when I opened up the exhaust a bit, and got the popping, I asked about it... Turned out it was actually a good thing for that engine b/c it was linked to high compression and having the exhaust gas sucked out of the combustion chamber...
