Brake Pad Sensor Light

I just did a rear pad and rotor job on my 2001 3.0 X5. I replaced the brake pad sensor as well. When I started up the car I assumed that the dash light would go out. Is there a process to reset the dash light?

OK guys I got the Check Brake Linings message on my display. So I ordered some new Axxis brake pads. While I was waiting for the brakes to arrive my BRAKE light came on and stopped driving the car. Today I replaced the brake pads but the sensor looked like it was still in good condition so I didn't replace it. Everything went without a hitch. Except that I am still getting the error when I turn the car on. I tried the instructions above and still get the same error.

Will the error not go away until I replace the sensor?

Correct. There are two sensors, one on the front and one on the rear. They are one-time-use, meaning that if they have triggered the light they need to be replaced. After they have been replaced, the instructions referenced above will reset the Check Brake Linings light.
