Angry 18" rims will NOT fit on 4.8is

Hello All -
So based on the reading among this forum I took the advice and purchased 18" rims/tires set off of ebay for use on my '05 4.8is. They are from the 4.4 I believe they are the stock style and they look nice. I have used them on my vehicle all winter long with no problem, however the calipers were always very close to the wheel.

Well today my X was in for new brakes all around, the dealership calls me and says "we have a problem"... "your front brake calipers are hitting your rims now that you have the new brake pads!!!".

So I load up the two from OEM 20's in the loaner... somebody must have been watching over me because I was in a 325 wagon.

Anyway, sure enough the calipers hit the rims now... bad. My question to everybody is: #1 does anybody know for SURE if a 4.8 can take 18" rims of any style? and #2 does anybody was a slightly used set of OEM 4.4 style rims and tires?

(by the way they ARE OEM, and I bought them Brand new with Brand New Michelin Tires)

Thanks folks!
-Josh

Yes, this has already been established. It's the same reason your spare wheel/tire is different from the other X5 models.

They do take 18" style 58 wheels with no problems. NCX has them as his winter setup on his 4.6is. And you may have seen pics of my 4.8is with 18" in the articles section.

ya NCX and Lemans both have fitted 18's on their 4.8, but that must be some "special style wheel" thats deeper.. i didnt wanna risk it so i purchased 19" wheels with snow tire set up worked great

You can install any 18 wheels, but with the right offset. I believe stock 99' style have +40mm and they do fit 4.8is.

I have 4 dealer installed 18 inch rims and snow tires on my 4.8is. When you look carefully, there is very little clearance between the caliper and the rim on the front. I don't remember offhand what code the wheels are...

I don't think 69s work because my friend sold me his when he got his 4.8is because they would not fit. He is running 275/40/20s with snows all the way around.
