Newbie Question about tire pressure and sensors

First post,

have some questions. I just purchased a 2005 4.4 with stock 18's. Last night I bought a set of aftermarket type 87's with 20" toyo's I mounted them this morning and the tire pressure monitor warning is iluminated in the dash. Are they are actually supposed to be pressure monitors in the tires? I thought there was something that counted the revolutions of the tire and it one was lower than the other side it would trigger the alarm. I know the front tires Have more air than the rears could this be the problem? or or is the problem that the aftermarket wheels dont have the tire pressure sensors in them? Also what tire pressure should I run all around? Manual says 32psi bought when I put the wheels and tires on and checked the guy has them at 40psi. Thanks!

The manual will tell you how to reset the TPMS. But here is the quick:

- turn the car on while parked
- hold down the TPMS button on the dash, near the heated seats button area
- this will set the TPMS to the current specs

This always worked on my X5 and my 545 when switching wheels.

Often installers will inflate the tire to the max psi as listed on the sidewall, regardless of what is recommended for the vehicle. If you have kept the stock tire sizes, stick with the recommended PSI (32 front and rear)

TPMS

Hi I currently own a 05 X5 3.0 w/ TPMS.... 17" OEM wheels, I am thinking of purchasing Conti Crosscontact LX 255/55/18, I already have a 18" OEM Bmw wheels, my question is will the TPMS still work if I switch the tires & wheels ? or do I need to modify anything ? Also How do you rate the Conti ? my stock MXV were really bad in the Rain..... thanks for any inputs.....

OK so I did some reading on some of others regarding TPMS..... Does all X5 with TPMS have the Valve sensors ?????????????????
