Help: Need to upgrade my brakes!
I'm looking to upgrade my brakes. I have an '01 4.4 and just upgraded my wheels to the 20" Style 87s and the brakes look whimpy! I would like something with the look of the brembo big brake kit but for much less money! If anyone can recommend good, large, drilled brakes that'd be great! Thanks, Jason |

Buy the 4.6is brakes I have in the For Sale Forum!! You can have them powdercoated as well to really complete the look. I have a place to send them to for powdercoating.
If you want you could also buy cross drilled rotors: http://www.raceshopper.com/sp_rotors.shtml They do have the cross drilled for the fronts for the 4.6is and they were supposed to get the rears in stock in December..... My 4.6is calipers: $700 shipped (No rotors), $450 powder coating, pads @$140, rotors $450 That way you will have powder coated 4.6is brakes with cross drilled rotors for $1,740.... pretty good deal!!! Great stopping power and an awsome look!!! Much less than the Brembos for $6,500!! http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...-calipers.html |

jtphilips,
How is the ride using your 20" rims and Style 87 ? What tire sizes are you using ? Staggered ? Can you post some pics ? |

I just posted these pics. The ride has suffered a bit from the 17" rims I used to have but I get a lot of looks now. Tire sizes - 20x9.5 in the front, 20x10.5 in the rear. Yes they're staggered. Love them! Quote:

What's the minimum size wheel you need to clear the 4.6 front calipers?
I've got I think the 18" OEMs for Winter. Not sure if they'll clear. |

18s will clear 4.6 calipers...most people with 4.6is wheels including myself have 18" wheels for the winter set-up.
