Rear rotor removal- Help
Hi. I'm changing my rear pad and rotors (did the front several weeks ago) I can not get the rotor off the hub. I've whacked it and it is loose but seems to be hanging somewhere towards the front of the vehicle. It's almost like there's some clip or something hanging it up. Any thoughts. I did remove the rotor screw. Any help would be appreciated. I'm I missing something?

Thanks,
I'm not sure exactly what you meant by ebrake. But it triggered me to go check the parking brake. Duoh- the rotor feel off when I release it. Do I need to worry about having damage anything- i was whacking fairly vigorously! I guess I missed the part about making sure handbrake was off. Thanks again |

PB Blaster... Spray it in all of holes, where the rotor meets the hub. Tap with a hammer to help loosten the rotor. I would put a aluminum pan under where you are working to catch rust and the extra PB Blaster. Should do the trick.....

I just did the same god damn thing - I am so frustrated right now. I spent an hour flipping out trying to pry the fucker off. Mutilated my dust shield and started to worry i was going to permanently damage something. I was worried the rotor was rusted to the hub or something. I also snapped my rubber mallet in two pieces. Would someone PLEASE update the DIY to include this information????

btw - it is possible to mess something up here. After releasing the parking brake rotor literally FELL off. Unfortunately so did the little hex bolt spring thing that hold the top of the e-brake assemblyto the brake shield.
It pushes into a slot then you turn it 90 degrees to lock it. Germans love this kind of shit. Same sort of thing made me destroy my 4x3 bortmonitor to get it out. Makes total sense why the rotor was stuck the way it was. The ebrake was locked so it was pushing against the outside of the rotor. So when i was prying the thing off i was compressing the spring and eventually ripped the POS out of its little post. I was able to bang it back together so the pin would hold again but I don't really trust it. The integrity of the hole in the dustshield is probably not that great anymore. I would just get a new dust shield since i dinged it up a little anyway BUT that would require removing the hub assembly. F that. if it doesnt stay or for anyone else that reads this post too late i have a solution. Drill a bigger hole, go by a threaded bolt and nut, remove the spring. you can then bolt this together and should be good. I'm going to see what happens when i apply the ebrake. I cant imagine good things would happen if the screw was bouncing around in there and the top of the ebrake assembly was loose. What a bitch.
