Opinions and advice on 18" wheels for E53...

I am considering upgrading the factory 17’s to some 18’s. I have a budget of $1500ish, so going up to 19+ is not really doable (tires alone cost this much). As for the tires, I’m thinking the Hankook Ventus ST RH06 – they look pretty aggressive, they are perfect all seasons for the weather we have in Vancouver (plenty of rain and I head up to the mountains in the winter for some boarding) and I can score them for about $800 inc shipping. To be honest, I liked the General Altimax HP’s, but I don’t think they make 255/55/18’s...
And onto the questions:
a. There are a few Ebay retailers selling 18’s for reasonable prices (750ish inc shipping to Vancouver) – most of them require a ‘ring’ for the bore – will this affect the vehicle in any way?
b. Also, the aftermarket ones I have found are mostly 18 x 7.5 or 18 x 8 with an offset of about +35 to +38 – I know that the factory wheels in the 18 x 8 size have an offset of +40, will this be an issue? Still don’t quite understand the offsets...
c. I know with the 17’s you can do a slightly wider sized tire (255/60/17 instead of the original 235/65/17) – is there any other size in the 18’s that will fit (slightly wider than the original 255/55/18)?
i. There was a set of 18’s that was staggered ( 18x8.5 and 18x9.5)– wondering if this is doable in an X5?
d. Because they’re 18’s and not really that wide (not a fan of the empty wheel wells), I was thinking about spacers – do they affect the vehicle at all and will they work in conjunction with the above mentioned ‘bore rings’? Any suggestions on front and rear sizings for the spacers? Affordable options? or does adding this to the mix bring me into 19" pricing territory?
e. Lastly – I’ve narrowed the wheels down to 5 sets – i wouldn’t mind some feedback on them – let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions in the same price range (I’m sure you’ll see a theme – I like the black and silver mix – my X5 is black with the silver rails and trim around the windows)...
Ok – I know this is a novel – thanks in advance for any of you who get through reading this and can offer any help..

Honestly, I say wait until you have the cash for 19's or 20's. All of these are going to look too small and cheap on your X5, IMO. Especially the black/chrome look.

thaks for the input guys - i like the eurotech wheels (they have a cool set of 168's in chrome), but the prob with them is that the cheapest 20" all season tire package I can find is about $1600 (that's my whole budget!) - if you have any suggestions, please let me know...
I would consider 19's if I can find something decent. Saw some staggered chrome 132's recently and they looked pretty nice - still looking around - again, please let me know if you see anything nice in my budget range...

Check this website. It looks like you can trade your old OEM wheels in for credit on other used OEM wheels.

Just a thought.
