Just pulled the trigger on Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snows
They received excellent ratings and they are the only snow tires that come in 315's for the rear. Purchased them at the tirerack.com to go on my style 168 rims. Shipping them to my local installer and will have an alignment done as well.
![]() 275/40R20 @ $317 each 315/35R20 @ $348 each Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow RFT At 22k miles the Michelin HP Latitudes being replaced did very well. They were a compromise from the Michelin Diamaris I had on previously in terms of warm weather performance, dry and wet but they got me through 2 winters. The rears wore out prematurely in the center due to having to use higher than preferred (but still less than sidewall ratings) pressure to keep the TPMS light off when it was cold. I would raise the pressure when temps got consistently into the 30's and then in the spring bring them back down but the centers of the rear tires took the hit. The front tires still have pretty decent mileage left in them. So once I found stock size winter tires I decided to go with a dedicated set. I'll invest in a set of new or lightly used wheels for a set of Michelin Diamaris warm weather tires I have. Not sure what to get, I have time to decide for sure. Suggestions on rims (to fit tire sizes above) this spring? |

MB - Only a few hundred miles on them so not really broken in yet. From a ride perspective they are fine, need to put some more miles on them before I push the X through the corners some to see how they handle.

Update -
Snowed here in Maryland today and I took the X out for a spin to see how well these tires did.
I am very impressed, they are excellent in snow and slush. I was able find a few fairly steep hills covered in about 4 inches of snow and there was absolutely no spinning, when I goosed it they dug in and the X pulled up the hill. With DSC off it's easy to overpower the traction with my X but these tires really bite in. Even with the wider (275's in the front and 315's in the rear) widths for snows these Pirellis are remarkable. I highly recommend them. Cheers. |

Same, it works well as a winter set up. A few weeks ago I put on the same tires, 20 in, Front:265/45 Rear:295/40. Drove them in the snow a few times and I was really impressed. I will get pics up soon. Good winter choice if you want to keep the wide, 20in look.
