tire diameter ?

What is the largest tire diameter possible that would fit on a 2002 X5. I have 18" OEM rims and would like to put 285/60/18 on it. This would increase the the overall diameter from 29 to 31.5 inches. Is this possible without running into rubbing issues? Thanks for the help. I tried to search but most threads are related to rim dia. versus tire dia.

Thanks again,

I saved a pic & post done by "Lambeau" from a few years ago:
http://www.xoutpost.com/393688-post1.html

It shows his big/tall tire winter set up; the size he used is very, very close
diameter-wise, to your intended set up. I don't guarantee it, but the specs
are damn close, nominally, though tire brands/sizing can vary considerably
from brand to brand.

Here's an easy link to check up on my arithmetic, which I used to give you
a ballpark:
Tire size calculator

Using the two tire sizes shows that Lambeau's snow tire set-up is actually a
tad bigger in circum than your potential size usage, though brands really have some
differences in real world actual 'dimensions', but you may be in the right zip code.
