you have to have factory angel eyes in order to install this item? or can it fit on an 01 without angel eyes?

Correct, you'll need the headlights that came stock with angel eyes since this is basically an upgrade, it's not an entire kit including the rings and instructions how to retrofit them, if that makes sense
