well i heard of another way to open an 03'.

its the same process os the 02s but since the glue is STRONGER its harder to open. i was told to use a "hot knife" to cut through the glue. i dont know if its possible at all but we should know by next week or 2 i hae an 03 comming in that we will try on.

Well it's next week... what's the verdict?

Also can I assume that somebody has tried to bake an '03 assembly and it didn't work? Then how did this guy do it on an '04 X3 http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:...nt=firefox-a)?? Do they have different lights and glue?

I have also lobbed a call into Hella, inquiring as to whether the '03 glue assembly is heat resistant and how they service headlights that "can not be opened"?

it's an '04. '03's were the only year that they
used the extra strong glue.

Well that just SUCKS!

So Dave @ CustomAE is the only person who has/can do it?

For these reasons, we sell our '03 customers completed headlights with the Angel Eyes already installed.

FYI except for the change in sealent all pre 2004 X5 headlights are identical.

03s cannot be opened just with baking.

its been tried here too.

dave has a stock of pre03 lights that he can switch out.

i traded my 03s for an 01s (even swap).... (thanks Jack!) and was able to do the mod.

you can't hot knife as there is no way to get the knife to the glue without going through the outer plastic.
