BMW 335i M Sport Touring wagon for everywhere but here

While Audi has at times made some of its most powerful S4s and RS4s in Avant wagon bodystyle only, BMW has never made an M3 Touring. And technically, it still hasn't, at least not in name. But the new 335i M Sport Touring is pretty damn close.

With a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six, the 335i sports sedan is as quick as the outgoing previous-generation M3, but while the 335i may be deserving of the M badge as much as any M model has before, that's being saved for the new V8-powered M3. The 3-Series Touring wagon model is getting the same engine as the 335i, along with big 18-inch wheels, but also gets the added benefit of a 460-liter cargo capacity without compromising its sporting pretensions. Very nice.

The 335i M Sport Touring sells in the UK for £34,920 (you can save almost three thousand off that by going for the gentler 335i SE version and skip the M wheels). No telling if the kickin' family hauler will make it to the US, but we sure hope it does. 'Cause with wheels like those (and 28.8 mpg combined-cycle economy), who needs an SUV?

Because your local BMW marketing company seems to believe it dilutes the M brand. The M Sport kit remains an aftermarket item on some models in the US, except for the X3, I believe. Not much info yet on the E90 3 series, but the 5 series offerings are interesting.

The BMWNA website shows a 530xi Sportwagon, while BMWCA calls it a Touring.

We have the 530xiT M Sport now here in Canada, and we get the 3.0 twin turbo in the spring in the 5 series, so we may be closer to a real sportwagon. I think an M Sport 335 Touring would be incredible. If we get it here we will let you come up and look at it.

The U.S. should be getting a 535i and 535ix twin turbo sedan also in the spring, but I've not heard if we'll get a 535i or ix sports wagen. BTW - there's are test mules of both M3 and M5 sports wagens; with so many performance wagens in their lineup, you would think some of the good stuff will trickle into the U.S.

Add to that: US will not be getting the rear diffuser in the new M3 due to emission/environment issues. See diffuser in rear bumper in M3 pic below.
