Ultimate Drive

So I did the Ultimate Drive for the Cure yesterday here in Arlington. All I have to say is....OMFG!!!

The 6 series coupe was just sitting there so I asked to jump in. Took off..WOW...WOW....WOW...can that car move! I loved the little projected speedometer on the windshield and the visual park distance. I really really want one now! If only it had a real back seat and an actual sunroof.

So get back with heart still racing, my car is blocked in so I ask to go for another round. Then I see the 750 just sitting there. Jump in. Quite a difference from the 6, but very nice. Although I was not the biggest fan of all the little buttons hidden away out of sight, namely the seat controls.

This was also my first time actally using the iDrive. Sure its a little confusing, but after 10mins I had it down pat. So I dont see what all these journalists are complaining about.

So yes, this was a great reason to leave work early yesterday!!!!

I'm driving the 650Ci @ BMW of Bel Air on April 18th (along with the X5). I'm also transporting from BMW of Bel Air to Tate BMW...the earlier you arrive, the better your chances are of getting to transport the car you want...I'm thinking it's going to be the 650Ci for the long trip!

Wait how do you get to do that? And what does that involve?

P.S. I also love how the dumb people at Arlington setup an innacurate test course so you basically could just drive where you wanted really.

I'm jealous...I haven't heard back from them yet to schedule. I wonder when it will be in NJ. You know I must drive that 6

Yes, you will have the same car. There's an east coast fleet and a west coast fleet. Survivors with the help of CCA members transport the cars from dealer to dealer.

UPDATE FROM NCCBMWCCA:

Come Drive the Hydrogen 7s

As a surprise, BMW NA has brought out 3 Hydrogen 7s for test drives during the Komen Drive for the Cure at Passport, Bel Air, and Annapolis. An engineer from BMW AG rides along to answer questions.

Briefly, the engines currently are governed to 260 hp and a 125 mi. tank range, but much more will be possible in the future (they use that station in Arlington). The only interior difference is a fuel switch button on the steering wheel and fuel filler release, along with a dash indicator.

It starts up in hydrogen mode with a slight delay as the hydrogen pump winds up, like a diesel semi. Fuel mode can be switched over at any time. H2 mode runs slightly rougher, but the power output is supposed to be the same throughout the rev range between modes.

Here's your chance to get a first look, stop by!
