HID upgrade for my E46/5 compact 316ti

Hi all! I know that the BMW E46/5 compact has never been lauched in USA, but I think maybe it is the same thing with E46 sedan/coupe/convertible.

Here is the question, my 316ti come with standard helogen headlights, I am thinking of upgrading to OEM HID bi-xenon headlights. I just wonder if it is feasible and if it is just a direct swap. Will there be any problem of headlight function after upgrading to bi-xenon headlight from halogen headlight? Is there anything elso I should do for the upgrading? Can I just install a pair of resistor to remove the headlight fail alert just like E53 x5's HID upgrade?

Thanks for all input!!!
