Bought an M3 today - Horrible Dealer Experiance

I added a 06 Alpine White M3 Vert CPO to the family today.

Kind of bought it on a whim, traded in my 06 Porsche 987, 3700 miles. So after the whole dance back and forth we agreed on a price for both trade and new car. Great, go to bank get check and call insurance and have cards emailed to dealer. Fastest car purchase in my life.

2 hours later go to dealer to pick up, see car coming out of service, detailed, inspected and looking good. SA meets me out side, I say car looks great and he says sorry but he can't honor the deal! I thought he was kidding until Sales Manager comes out.
Claims they over appraised trade and valued it if it was a Boxster S. I said too bad, I didn't represent the car as an S and you had three people look over my car with a magnifying glass!. I stated that I have a signed contract and a check in hand and expect them to do the deal.

Long story short, cost be another $1,200.00 after a lot of yelling and back and forth. I could have walked out and taken my p-car home but it was the principle and at this point I wanted the car. They absolutely wouldn't honor the deal. I do believe they made an honest mistake. Maybe BMW dealers shouldn't be appraising Porsche's but felt it was up to them to honor the deal. I did nothing to deceive them and bargained in total good faith.

In all my years I have never experienced anything like it. I'm sure if I threatened legal action I could have held them to the deal but also felt it just wasn't worth it.

I will say the M3 is a blast and the SMG is great. Wife says I should have walked and found another!

another prime example of the consumer mentallity, if we wanted to buy something really bad, the seller can get away with almost anything.

congrats on the m3 though.

Wow, what a hassle! And all for $1200? You'd think they'd have built in enough profit on the deal to eat that, knowing they'd more than make it up in service fees on the M while you own it.

Congrats on your new ride. I hope a great future with the ride outweighs the negative beginning.

Dave

It started out at 6K and that what we settled. For that, they lost a customer and any referrals from me. Amazing

I think just on principle I would have just left and went to another dealer.

1,200.00 isn't worth getting into a legal hassle over, but you did have a signed deal. I'm assuming that means it went through finance so it was an actual deal and not just the 4 square the used car guys use to take the deal to the used car sales manager. But come to think of it even with just that I think I would have left.

If they are going to do this to you on the sale, just think what they are going to do to you when its in service and you have absolutly no way of knowing if what they are telling you is true. Short of spending money to get a second opinion of course.

Not a dealer I would want to do business with...

They should honor the deal, and I would have walked away. However, there is the mentality that "you own your beliefs" (psychology). Which is fine, esp. for an M3. Congrats on your new ride

Another example of bad dealer service: My uncle in NYC wants a Gray/Gray lthr '08 Acura MDX. The dealer offered to dealer-swap one within last month, since they did not have his choice in stock. He had put down a whopping $3000 deposit. Meanwhile, they keep pushing my uncle to opt for an in-stock vehicle that's a different color and/or has more options. At this point, its been over a month, and the dealer still has not gotten the vehicle. We're telling him to take his (hefty) deposit back and to go elsewhere.

Boxster was blast, had two of them but I have three kids and the 2 seater just wasn't cutting it.

Would have but a Carrera but my 13 yr old couldn't even fit back there.

Drove the M3 and after 20 minutes I know I wanted it!
