New Winter Car

Like many on this site, I am fairly obsessed with cars... and although I won't actually have the car until fall of '08, it will be ordered by late spring/early summer in order for it to come in time.

What car, you ask?

Well, my new winter car, of course. My son--assuming he earns it--will be getting what is probably the best first car ever, my A3. That leaves me with a void next to my S4 just aching to be filled. I am currently split between Audis and Bimmers:

•*335xi coupe
•*535xi sedan
•*M3 coupe
•*M5
•*S5
•*S6
•*S8
•*RS4

Space is not an absolute necessity, as made obvious by the 335xi, M3, S5 and RS4 on this list. However, it would be nice. I have driven only one of the cars on this list so far (535xi), and it was excellent, as are the other three BMWs. But Audis continue to seduce me. All four I mentioned have stunning styling, perfect engines and gorgeous interiors. So I am torn.

I will be driving these things in the Spring. Will the M3 be out by then? If not, I think I can survive without testing it... maybe.

Suggestions?

I've discussed this many times with you before....no sense at all in getting a WINTER car that has fwd or rwd...so my vote goes to the 535xi

edit: duh. The choice is obvious: X6 3.5/4.4TT

Snow tires basically make up for any handicap, so that is moot.

My A3 is FWD, and to say it has been a good winter car is an understatement. It's also very fun, which is not what you usually see with FWD vehicles.

I think the 535xi is at the bottom of my list, actually. It seems to be the most sensible, and thus the most boring, of the cars I mentioned. I'm an emotional person.

Get the 535xi sedan or 535xi sports wagon if you need cargo room.

But really, if you don't need AWD just buy the rear-wheel drive BMWs and stick snow tires on them.

Seems like you already have a winter car with the X and need another summer car

I would not buy any of those cars without waiting to drive the new M3 first if you can hold out that long.

Nice predicament to be in and nice stable
