I don't know about the 2011 models, but my 2008 535 has a key slot. Thing is, it doesn't charge the key. Comfort access uses a replaceable battery, non CA models charge the key.
If CA is standard now, they wouldn't need a key slot.

The newer models are doing away with the key slot. You should have seen me looking around for it the first time I got in an F01 7 series... I guess the key slot is now officially your pocket.

Thanks, LeMansX5. That was more polite that telling me to RTFM! Truth is, I had already found the part that showed how to replace the battery. However, since even rechargeable batteries require replacement eventually, it didn't answer my question. Yes, interesting though that my son's 2011 135 has the key slot, and my wife's 2011 535 does not.

Suggests that the 1 series is available without Comfort Access, which would then require the key slot.

I paid extra on both vehicles for it, implying it is available without CA on both models, yes?

since 07 I think, all comfort access keys have standalone non-rechargeable batteries. None of the F10 have key slots even for non- comfort access cars. It's all keyless start.

Yes. Guess the F10 is just a newer design.

Yup. The newer BMWs are now eliminating the key slot as standard, as seen on the 5er and X3. Gets rid of the complaints about "having to insert the key first."
Now, the only benefit of Comfort Access is the ability to open/lock doors by touching the door handles. |
