Went to the dealer for the F20.....

With the recent release of the F20 in South Africa, I strolled down to Atlantic BMW in Kaapstad (Cape Town) where they just received their fleet of 1ers a couple days ago.

I know many folks here seem to hate the styling but honestly it's not so bad. The interior is substantially improved in quality and feel and there's now useable boot/truck space. Fuel consumption is substantially better and COČ emissions are down, which is good because there's a COČ tax now in SA on vehicles emitting over 120g/km.

Prices for the SA market start at R269.000 for the entry 116i and bump to R335.000 or so for the top 120d model.

The whole car is ugly as shiz. I don't get it at all. Quite honestly, it looks cheap and the lights (front and rear) are way too big for the body, imo. Not impressed at all. Hopefully, the coupe will look better. I never liked the look of the current model in 5-door form either though.

I just got back this morning, it was a short Global Immersion trip for our Accounting programme that took place during fall break.

One of the things I took away from the trip was that I'm living on the wrong side of the Atlantic. SA is beautiful especially Kaapstad (Cape Town) with its turquoise waters and bays. Drove Chapman's Peak in the dodgiest rental car ever too.
