Extended Warranty/Got me a new engine x5m. Now what?
So,
My 2012 X5m, I had purchased extended warranty for; It was at 63k miles when right after some "hard spirited" driving, I def. heard the noise like my rod bearings got damaged(common problem with v10s m5/m6s) took into dealer and i was right.. rod bearings, metal flakes on oil =new engine so the extended warranty company approved the new engine replacement. Dealer replaced/installed new engine What does this mean for the re-sale of my car? Good? bad? Longevity im guessing good? Am i lucky that i got this new engine? Let me know your thoughts, opinions Thanks! Vlad

Vlad:
Congratulations! With you new replacement engine installed into your 2012 X5M with approximately 63,000 miles, you now have essentially a new vehicle. I have several questions for you: 1. What sort of warranty did BMW USA and your BMW Dealer give you on the replacement engine? One year or 12,000 miles or more? 2. How long is your purchased BMW extended warranty on the vehicle valid for? 75,000 miles / 6 years from date of purchase or some other distance/time? 3. What was your original intention for the amount of time and/or mileage that you had intended to keep this particular vehicle for, before selling it? To answer your original question, some people would look at the new engine as a plus factor, while others would be concerned that some other mechanical part of your vehicle may soon fail. They may also suspect that your "spirited driving" may have caused other additional accelerated wear and tear on other parts of your X5M that may also be contributing to some premature failure of something else in or on your vehicle. Unfortunately, there is not simple answer, but if you decided to sell it, I suggest you sell it yourself in a clear, honest, "as is" state, without any verbal or implied assurances as to its remaining mechanical integrity, let alone longevity....
