First drive in X5M

Went by dealer this morning and they finally had an X5M to drive. First Impressions verses my E70 4.8 sport. It was Sapphire Black on Black extended leather with Carbon leather trim.
  • Steering is much lighter but more accurate and true. Not so much tramlining as with the 4.8. Almost seemed like it had active steering but not so variable as that. Loved it.
  • Suspension without the EDC button depressed seemed tighter but more comfortable
  • Exhaust is very muted, Actually quieter than 4.8.
  • Throttle response more immediate, no turbo lag whatsoever. I didn't really mash it because it only had 30 miles on it.
  • Sport seats are identical to sport seats on my 4.8. At least i think they were. Merino leather much nicer than my Nappa Leather upgrade in the 4.8.
  • M sport button - Did not get into the idrive to see how it was set up but immediatly noticed quicker throttle response and more immediate acceleration, louder exhaust note, very cool, Steering tightened up and brakes pedal feel seemed to tighten as well. Could have been my imagination but seemed different.
  • New idrive is really cool. Didnt have an opportunity to really dive into it but one thing I noticed was the backup camera was greatly improved and the map seemed at least looked really cool.
  • I know many have said the wheels don't do the car any justice but I really liked them.
So it might look like I am completely sold on it. I am. Completely different driving experience than my 4.8 even much different than a X6 5.0. Near perfection. I can only imagine what this thing will do after break in. I had a 2008 Cayenne GTS and this X5M was much more pleasing to drive than that.

Just need to decide on color Space Gray or Silverstone and grab an order spot. Oh yeah and of course decide on how to come up with the 40K difference. Anyone want to buy a 2008 4.8is Sport, only 15K miles??? please....

Yes drove it in M mode. Steering response, brake feel, throttle tip in and exhaust all became more precise. Exhaust sound most notable in M mode very thoaty and mechanical not like in the V8. Not sure how to describe it. Sounded great. Steering response became tighter as well did not feel as light. Overall an exceptionally enjoyable car to drive.

Yeah $40K is a big number. you only live once though at least thats what I keep telling myself. Figuring my '08 is worth 450K in trade and about $90K for the M. COuld wait a year M might be more afordable, maybe save a couple thousand more but my 4.8 will likley be worth $35K - $40K in a year. Same boat as a few other in the forum. Probably should never have driven the M.
