Real-life lead time?

I will soon join the owners' ranks with a new X5M, partially because of the glowing reviews I read here -- you all should be on commission.

I was wondering what peoples' actual experience has been with the time it took from order submission to delivery (well, maybe not pre-orders). It looks like my current ride will be sold well before I take delivery (listed yesterday, probably gone tomorrow), so I want to get a sense of whether I'll need to rent a car in the interim!
