This is my first SUV/SAV. Was supposed to get a 4.8 for the wife then I ran into this, rest is history...

Sold my 2008 M5 for my 2010 X5 M. Miss the 7 speeds of my SMG, but not the shift abruptness at times. Miss the rev range of the V10 as I was used to "knowing" when to shift. However, now that I am past my 1200 miles (as of today), I am finding myself getting more and more used to the TT V8. It will be a monster in the F10, which I will likely replace the X5 M for....Or maybe I will go Individual on my X5 M next? Decisions, decisions...

I would like to here more of your thoughts on the M5 vs the X5M. Also would you really go back to the M5 when they put this tt in it? What made you go to the X5 in the first place?

I sold the M5 because I have 2 little ones, 2 year old and 4 month old. Got tired of taking my wife's GL550 everytime we went somewhere together. It was very hard to fit the 2 strollers and bags in the M5, even with good size trunk that it was.

Would I go back to the M5? More than likely, especially that my 4 month old will be almost 3 and my 2 year old almost 5. At that point, no strollers probably, except a small travel one. So, M5 would be definitely a viable option again.

The TT V8 is an amazing engine. I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved the NA V10 in my 08 E60. However, the power band and delivery is so much more consistent. Even the M sports auto in the X5 M is great, every bit as good as the MDCT. I spent a lot of time in M3's with the M-DCT and I feel comfortable comparing the two. I would have preferred 7 speeds instead of 6, but that is okay. Not really needed.

Handling and performance is very similar. I actually prefer the cornering of the X5 M over the M5. Much more planted than the M5 was. I like the seating position better as well. Doesn't feel like a SUV/SAV at all.

Will I go back. Probably. Will have to drive the F10 M5. I may stick with another X5 M Individual if I can get it in the USA.

Hope it helps. If you have any questions, let me know.

Yes I do have comfort seats. Will post some pics in a bit.

The X5 in my profile pic was my wife's. We traded it for a 2009 GL550 last January 2nd. Again, we were anticipating our second child at the time. We knew we were going to have 2 strollers, and 2 car seats. We got 9k off the GL550 and 0.9% APR. So, we made the trade.

Worst decision I could have made. Wish instead that I had kept the X5 and added a trailer hitch and Thule external carrier. Would have accomplished what I wanted for the rare times I needed the true extra space. In December 2010 I will be getting rid of that vehicle for a 2011 X5 3.5d. Loaded, of course.

My previous SUV was 2006 X5 4.4. Great/very different than M.

When you live in MN, you're wise to drive something with AWD in the winter. I also needed to retain the the space of an SUV so it was an easy transition to the M.

Vehicles? I would take some time to write down every single car I owned in my life (I'm 44 now).

SUVs?
Well: first SUV (Off-Roader actually) was an Isuzu Trooper TD. Wonderful car for my diplomatic work (German consulate) in Eastern Europe (during the time of the Warsaw Pact) because of the bad streets and the lack of food and goods in shops but the engine was very weak and the Isuzu was slow.
A couple of years later, when my first child was born, I got myself a nice Mercedes ML 55 AMG. I HAD to have the fastest SUV on this planet and it was absolutely marvelous.
Then, Porsche came up with the Cayenne Turbo, so I had to have that too.
Then, Porsche came up with an even more powerful Cayenne Turbo S, so I had to have that too.
Now guess how the story ends...right...again I had to have the most powerful SUV on the planet, so I ended up with the...can you guess it...right...the X5 M.
