i thought that maybe it was just me...but i find the instrument cluster lights kind of dim as well...like they look like they could be brighter...

You are right, only in the daytime.

Yes, it looks to be the daytime lighting on the center display between the speedo and tach. I even had my BMW service center take the car and check with the factory rep. It appears that this is normal on the X5M and X6M. I did compare it to another they had in inventory and it was identical - so no big deal. I just wanted to hear that this was normal. The display on the X5M instrument cluster seems to be more reddish than amber as with normal X5 clusters - and slightly dimmer. This is mainly noticeable at the daytime. I would guess that the reddish coloring is to match better with the white and red analog cluster.
